It is and really doesn't easier. I find it help to not make it personal but rather focus on the tangible reasons for the dismissal whether its a person or a company.

I find discontinuing the services of a vendor easier emotionally, but it's more annoying because they then spend all kinds of time calling and emailing you trying to get your business back.

Other firing of people is really difficult.

You will not be surprised to learn that kicking students out is also hard, so I have extra strong sympathy for your observation this week. :-/

Having been in both positions, I prefer being fired to firing someone else. Even though I don't prefer being fired at *all*.
