He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.
Quote of the day, from Maurice Sendak:
Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.

That's awesome.

This was making me laugh last week, too, but I still love it:

Right now, Ibuprofen is making me smile as it seems to actually be alleviating my headache. YaY!

Also, a random "thinking of you" email this morning from the other side of the globe.

It's finally Fall in North Carolina so the leaves have changed and a slightly warm rain is bringing them down off the trees in large fluttering clouds. The dog found an abandoned pig ear and carried it protectively for the half-mile walk home.

My brother totally used to do things like this as a child, which was a source of endless amusement and delight for me, and still is when I reminisce..

Last May I suggested that the graduate students in my lab get together once a week to talk about our projects. We've kept it up since then, and this morning one of my lab mates sent a very sweet email about how much she enjoys the practice.

People have actually been saying very nice things to me all week. It's like the universe decided I needed to get a particular message right now.
