Never been closer to the equator than Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico (just south of 28degN). On the other hand, I've never really felt the need -- when I dream of vacation getaways, they usually involve scenery like castles and chalets :)

"Somewhere arctic" would also be an interesting question . . .

Same here, for the same reasons. It *feels* tropical, doesn't it?

tropical yes, equatorial not particularly
I've visited things between 18 and 23 degrees latitude in both hemispheres, but never been closer than that to the equator except in an airplane.

Arguably I've -lived- somewhere tropical for more than half my life, but I've also visited somewhere 80mi from the equator, which seals my answer pretty well.

I've been to three warm climates
Hawai'i and Jamaica are both very warm islands, but I didn't really understand the meaning of "tropical" until I spend a week in Singapore.

where I've been
St. Maarten
Hawaii
Fiji
Tahiti
Cook Islands
Hong Kong
top ends of Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia
Indonesia (Jakarta and Banda Aceh)
Singapore (if you count a short layover, but I never did leave the airport)

Japan doesn't count, but the heat and humidity there in summer were so stifling, it certainly felt tropical. :-b

We might return to someplace Caribbean for our anniversary, too. Maybe Puerto Rico or St. Lucia.
