Do you have a bank you love in the Boston area? What is it?

It's not my primary bank, and I can't say I love them but Citizens has been pretty good for me. Particularly their weekend hours.

I used to love them, but their free checking is no longer free (at least, not as I'm using it) and so I've moved on!

This
We just punted Citizens because they decided to charge us $72/year for exactly zero additional service.

seconded.

it's a credit union, but last i checked you can become a member of an affiliated non-profit organization for a year, and then keep your DCU membership forever.

Thirded, although I just got to them by leaving a big evil bank. There are some conditions for some of the good perks (like refunding all ATM fees), but they're relatively easy to meet.

Waving the DCU flag here too. Love them.

If you do choose them, you should join with a friends 'recommendation' as it will get them a little money.

Yup. DCU. Love 'em.

I've been with NMTW Community Credit Union for over a decade and love them. They have three equally inconveniently-located branches to choose from, but I almost never need to go there in person. gosling has an account at Cambridge Trust and loves them as well, except that they charge for transactions at other people's ATMs. My condo's bank account is with Winter Hill Bank and is also loved.

I picked Cambridge Savings Bank more or less at random when I moved here years ago, and nothing they've done has made me think about switching. This suggests to me either that they're pretty good, or that I'm not a demanding bank customer and therefore don't know anything useful!

But I mean, they've been friendly when I needed help, etc.

I am in the process of dumping Metro Credit Union since they bought University Credit Union and started to suck. For now, I'm using ING, which is not exactly local, but I'm satisfied. If you're interested in ING, let me know, I get money if I refer people.

I'm a bit of a bank addict but the closest bank I have to you is Umass (lovely people, but not the best online options for moving money). However, if you have any questions about online banks I have tried many many of them so you can ping me anytime to ask about those.

I don't recommend ING right now because it was just purchased by capital one. I would wait for the dust to settle on that one before trying it. I sure hope they don't mess it up since I rather like my accounts there.
