Holy crap, I make good coffee.

What's something you make that consistently makes you sit up and think, "Wow, this is awesome!"?

I'm my harshest critic by a long shot. I mostly just find the flaws in things I've made.

That said, I find my woodworking projects to be my most happy-making stuff. The bedside tables I made last year still make me squee when I notice them. :)

A roasted chicken, arugula and bread salad (based on Zuni Kitchen's http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/12/zuni-cafe-roast-chicken-bread-salad/).

It's soooo delicious I have been known to eat it out of a mixing bowl.

I just made some tahini salad dressing last night that made me look forward to dinner all afternoon, just because I wanted to make a salad and eat it with the dressing. Should be repeatable, too!

Oooo! I've been learning about buttercream! What kind do you make? So far I've made cold French, Pate a bombe French, and Swiss. Italian is next. So far the pate a bombe was the best, followed by the swiss.

Do you have buttercream receipes to share?

My standard is Italian - 1 cup sugar, 4 egg whites, ~10 ounces butter, flavoring

Cook the sugar to hard ball, pour slowly into soft peaked egg whites with mixer running, mix until room temp, add butter in chunks till done, flavor

(Not full instructions, but if you're working your way through the buttercreams, I suspect you know what I mean.)

Hah! I can contribute non-food things that I make.
My capacity for detail on my "vermicelli" style clay boxes is pretty awe-inspiring to even me.
Recently I haven't had the wherewithall to deal with that kind of art (although I miss the dickens out of it), so I've been playing with color theory on my non-representational watercolor pieces.
Although QE took the wind out of my sails by asking me last week what my next design would be since I've played the interwoven circles and faux stained glass styles sort of a lot. I have NFC what's next. Other than to mix more circles and triangles together. :P

For food: Pie dough. I can pretty much do that in my sleep.

Apple pie comes from the best cookbook ever, The Cooks Illustrated "The New Best Recipe Book". This is a tremendous tome on cooking scientifically, recipies tested dozens of times to determine what works and why.
