I like to make it make it!
Holy crap, I make good coffee.

What's something you make that consistently makes you sit up and think, "Wow, this is awesome!"?

Well, speaking of coffee, getting up in the morning to the delicious coffee your father has made is awesome daily.

Oatmeal a la Neil Gaiman! And other food. :)

I'm my harshest critic by a long shot. I mostly just find the flaws in things I've made.

That said, I find my woodworking projects to be my most happy-making stuff. The bedside tables I made last year still make me squee when I notice them. :)

A roasted chicken, arugula and bread salad (based on Zuni Kitchen's http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/12/zuni-cafe-roast-chicken-bread-salad/).

It's soooo delicious I have been known to eat it out of a mixing bowl.

I also make good cookies and cake.

I will occasionally write something that makes it onto the page with the certainty it couldn't have come from anyone or anywhere else.

Also, for a kid raised in Central Massachusetts, I make a damned fine gumbo. :)

Also, crafts.

flan, pernil, nowadays: buttercream, yellow cake, cheese sauce, manhattans

I like cooking!

I just made some tahini salad dressing last night that made me look forward to dinner all afternoon, just because I wanted to make a salad and eat it with the dressing. Should be repeatable, too!

Hmm. I think Mr. J would like to see evidence :)

I discovered a recipe that include cottage cheese for adding protein.

Sounds like maybe a brunch party is in order. :)

My pancakes are very basic, just six ingredients, plus any add-ins (fruit, chocolate chips, nuts, etc.).
existential hot showerveek on December 13th, 2011 04:34 pm (UTC)
Is one of the ingredients... love?
Bad Rabbitzzbottom on December 13th, 2011 04:42 pm (UTC)
Ok, seven ingredients. :)
Stephghislaine on December 13th, 2011 04:38 pm (UTC)
Oh. I DEFINITELY agree that a brunch party is now in order and I'll happily compete in the pancake and biscuit categories.
Bad Rabbitzzbottom on December 13th, 2011 04:43 pm (UTC)
I think that would have to involve two separate events. My pancake ego tends to take over an entire kitchen. :)

LOL

BRUNCH PARTY!

I make good gluten free pancakes, so that's a separate category, right?

Those collards I made the other day were awesome!

Also, buttercream.
Theory Slut: Balloondesiringsubject on December 13th, 2011 11:25 pm (UTC)
Oooo! I've been learning about buttercream! What kind do you make? So far I've made cold French, Pate a bombe French, and Swiss. Italian is next. So far the pate a bombe was the best, followed by the swiss.

Do you have buttercream receipes to share?
phoenixamber_phoenix on December 14th, 2011 04:33 pm (UTC)
My standard is Italian - 1 cup sugar, 4 egg whites, ~10 ounces butter, flavoring

Cook the sugar to hard ball, pour slowly into soft peaked egg whites with mixer running, mix until room temp, add butter in chunks till done, flavor

(Not full instructions, but if you're working your way through the buttercreams, I suspect you know what I mean.)

Biscuits. It's the Southern gene.

Hah! I can contribute non-food things that I make.
My capacity for detail on my "vermicelli" style clay boxes is pretty awe-inspiring to even me.
Recently I haven't had the wherewithall to deal with that kind of art (although I miss the dickens out of it), so I've been playing with color theory on my non-representational watercolor pieces.
Although QE took the wind out of my sails by asking me last week what my next design would be since I've played the interwoven circles and faux stained glass styles sort of a lot. I have NFC what's next. Other than to mix more circles and triangles together. :P

For food: Pie dough. I can pretty much do that in my sleep.

Brownies.

Chewy chocolate chip cookies.

Roast chicken (but not every time).

Pumpkin Pie - well, it makes my spouse sit up and say "This is awesome." Does that count?

And earlier today I picked up something in the bathroom that Jason had printed out. It turned out to be the beginning of a novel that I started in 2001. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed reading it. I think I'm going to have a year off from directing after P&P and I'm wondering if perhaps I could take another stab at it.

Apple Pie, with homemade crust.
Chicken Curry Stew with Jasmine Rice.

Apple pie comes from the best cookbook ever, The Cooks Illustrated "The New Best Recipe Book". This is a tremendous tome on cooking scientifically, recipies tested dozens of times to determine what works and why.
