social circles

Social circles are a funny thing. When I came to Boston, I ended up loosely involved with the susboid community, kind of by default. That's been okay, since I also had friends who moved here from Williams, and other friends from other spectrums, and at least a handful of susboids were people with whom I clicked pretty well.

Since my travels, however, there's been a lot of upheaval in my friends clusters. My closest college friends have all moved away from Boston, for one thing, and, of course, the internal changes I've been cultivating have an impact, too, but it's more and more common for me to be in a group of folks in one social circle or another and have the experience of "these are not my people." Not that they're bad or anything, just that it's not the place where my heart will find its community home.

So it's interesting to think about all this, and a little daunting to think about what to do about it. I don't really know how to go about finding new friends, although I suspect that some of the things I have planned for the next few months will probably help with that. Mostly, my experience has been that making friends is pretty organic, but since that's obviously not working at the moment... it'll be interesting to see where I go from here, certainly.
