taking "minutes"

When I was in 7th grade, I had my first opportunity to sit on an "advisory" board -- this was a group of staff and administrators who invited a small handful of students to join them in working toward developing a district-wide drug policy.

For the second meeting, I was asked to take the minutes. Uhhh... sure, I can do that, I guess!

So, I made a note of when we started, and when we finished, and I did the math and came up with how many minutes we had met! It struck me as a bit funny that they would need someone to do that for them, but I was good at math.

It was only when I handed my calculations over to the board member who'd asked me to take minutes that we realized my confusion.
