Okay, so this is like a commercially sponsored chain letter, but I've heard from several people that it is, in fact, legit, so I'm late to the party, but I would be happy to get the free ipod, so if you'd like to a) help me with that and b) maybe get one of your own, follow this link:

http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=10961111

(The catch -- you have to sign up for an offer (some of which are "free" for a couple of weeks, and you can cancel after your free period, if you remember to do so in time, and others of which are a commitment to pay more later (ie, Columbia House DVD club, etc) -- and after you sign up for one, you need to get five people to sign up on your referral (which is where you all come in, obviously :)

If/when I complete this, I'll let you all know and maybe other folks who are interested can go on the referral number of someone else, rather than me getting credit after I've completed the requirements already.

I'm gauging interest in having a Spanish chat group this Sunday, even though it's Halloween. It would be earlier in the day (maybe 1ish?) so people can get home for trick-or-treaters, or whatever they might want to do. It'll only happen if I have enough takers, so let me know if you'd be able to make it and I'll post for sure one way or the other in the next couple of days!

What are the most overused words and phrases amongst the people you spend time with?

In high school and college, I made a lot of mix tapes for myself and for friends. Back in the day (See these wrinkles!? I earned these with hours slaving over tapes trying to get the last song to end at JUST the right moment!), of course, it wasn't so easy as dragging a few songs into a new folder and clicking "burn". But I'm not bitter. No, not at all.

Annnyway.

geekchick proposed the other week to do a music swap, and that the folks who wanted to participate would make a mix, send several copies of it to her, and she'd distribute them. This is the first time in a long time that I've been making a mix along these lines (usually I'm just burning music I think my mom would like to hear from my collection), and since I don't know a thing about the tastes of the other participants, I'm having some fun running through my collection and trying to come up with a good assortment of stuff, preferably stuff that not everyone is likely to have hanging out in their music collections, too.

And, of course, some of this is music I haven't listened to in ages. I should make a point to run through my music collection and listen to more of it than the typical stand-bys more.

Whee!

For several years, I've been saying I want a Chanukah menorah, but I keep not getting one. Somehow, going out and buying one isn't as exciting to me as other options, and since I don't feel like waiting for it as a gift anymore, I think I'm going to try to make one. Maybe with something like sculpey? Or... hmm.

I have some ideas about how I want it to look, but I should probably do some drawing before going too far with it! I'll have to give this more thought. If anyone out there has made your own menorah and you have pointers, let me know :)

Okay, everyone has to see this: http://www.piratesandemperors.com/

It's in the style of Schoolhouse Rocks, but... a little more subversive. Very well done.

(Thanks to rollick for the link.)
