Books!

I'm going to Greece for 10 days in September, during which time, one of the things I hope to do is sit near the Mediterranean, sipping a cocktail and reading a great book. To this end, and for my reading list for the next few months, I'd love some recommendations!

I like both fiction and nonfiction. In fiction, I tend to like interesting, engaging, quirky characters and nuanced stories. I like scifi, fantasy, and more literary stuff. In nonfiction, I like nature, natural histories of interesting things, science, math, and culture. I also like personal essays and humor. Oh, and philosophy! And, hey, whatever else might be interesting. But not so much with politics, history or the like. And please, for the love of all that's good in the world, no self-help or fluffy stuff.
