ruthless compassion

On my way home this evening, I was incredibly tired and sleepy. If I'd had my wallet with me, I'd've hailed a cab, which I basically never do. I was also super impatient to get home, because I'd lost my wallet, which could have been at Orleans (the last place I used it), moominmolly's car (how I got from Orleans to home), or home, and I was pretty sure it was at home, since I called Orleans earlier in the evening and they didn't have it, and moominmolly had left me a voicemail saying she didn't find it in her car, either.

So, I hurried home and went directly to my disaster of a room, ready to tear it apart to find my wallet, because it was going to be a serious pain in the ass to have lost it for real. Replacing my ATM card, credit card and driver's license would be merely annoying, but it also contains all of the receipts from my most recent business trip. Can we say inconvenient?

Needless to say, of course, I found it, on my bedside table. Why was it there? Because I stayed out late drinking last night and it must have seemed like the right place to put it. Go, me.

Of course, I found the wallet almost an hour ago. Now, I think I'm finally wound-down enough to contemplate actually going to sleep.
