Be sure you buy the very large room it was in, too.

Yes! As far as I know, no kaiju has visited Boston to date-this model is just screaming to be attacked by someone in a rubber suit.

Wait... did our local wizard create that?

The BRA would love for you to think of them that way ...

A long time ago, in a galaxy called "Watertown," I made my living building models like that. It's actually pretty fun. I built the model for the re-design of the Cambridgeside Galleria area, back when they re-structured the canal and waterways.

I was totally thinking, "What a fun job to make this!" while looking at it.
Chancemiss_chance on September 29th, 2009 03:01 am (UTC)
Yeah, I really liked model-building. I was far more suited for it in my personality and skills than I was for working as an entry level architect, though I'm not sure that would still be true now.

BTW-- it's kind of surreal typing this, looking at a picture of you smiling and laughing, and hearing you laugh in the other room. It's like you have an icon with a sound file.

Or maybe I'm just drunk.

Yay, drunk!

That's hot.

Does building color mean anything?
MRFmrf_arch on September 28th, 2009 11:46 pm (UTC)
Not really. Lighter colored models are more recent additions to the cityscape, so the ones made of wood haven't darkened as much.

(Some of them are not-yet-even built additions to the city. I see the completed model for the Filene's block in there, as well as the model for the project at the corner of Washington and Lagrange that is, right now, an empty sandlot.)

Where do I go to see this marvel? Do they charge admission? Are there more cities? Are things labelled? How does TinyBoston's layout differ from BigBoston's?

Yeah, but beware what happens when you don't have the nickel. I hear they don't let you off tinyT.

*grins* Awesome!

It's at the Boston Redevelopment Authority in City Hall. They don't particularly advertise it as an attraction, but I think if you were to call and ask to visit it, you'd be welcome.

TinyBoston has a bunch of buildings that are in the works (or hoped to be), and is largely not labeled. It's pretty awesome.

What's the really tall skinny building at center right?
ruthless compassion: martini handsaroraborealis on September 29th, 2009 01:27 pm (UTC)
It's not built yet. You might call it Menino's legacy, or folly, depending on what camp you're in. AFAIK, it's not actually underway in any real way at the moment, but there are high hopes for it in some circles.
