Cost of appendix extraction to my insurance company: $18,000. Cost to me, $126 plus $75 copay.

I had sinus surgery about a year ago, and your insurance is better than mine by several orders of magnitude. *sigh*

ETA: Okay, maybe only one order of magnitude. But it's still a lot better.

Yeah, I feel incredibly lucky at the extent of my coverage.

One of the frustrating things about it is that H has great insurance, but my insurance through school is included in my funding, so it seemed foolish to buy different health insurance, even though it's better.

I'm thrilled that your appendix extraction went well and is covered and doesn't break your bank etc.

I'll forego the rant about how this process works.

Oh geez I need health insurance!! So very very glad you had it.

Also for that price I feel like you should have gotten a solid gold appendix implanted, rather than getting one removed.

...Hilary and I have now determined that $18000 should get you 3 solid gold appendixes. Just in case you'd like to go that route next time you're racking up large bills on internal organs. Not sure insurance would cover that, though.
