I have a teen daughter who was majorly into it over a year ago then she decided the fans were awful, and now she's kind feeling that way about the books too

You must be relieved!

it wasn't the worst thing to be into, and it's really my own fault. She's into manga, which is fine, but she was going to be on a cross country trip with her grandparents to SD and back. manga takes less than 1/2 hour to read. i went into Borders and asked 'I have a 13 year old girl going on a 3 week car trip. what will she like that's big?" they handed me the series and she galloped thru them and was done by the time she got back. it served it's purpose and she was never nutty about it, and now it's passed.

Good luck with that! :-)

(I kind of feel the same way about Harry Potter, but that's not exactly winning me any friends. )

I enjoy mocking it.
Or watching others mock it.
Sparkly vampires? Pleeeeeeease

Yes! I am addicted to people's snarky summaries.

(That said, it was only 2006 when I finally gave up on Anita Blake, Vampire Fucker.)

Merry Gentry! Those books are a thousand times worse than any tripe Stephanie Meyer has ever published :)

Last year I was in an airport and desperately needed some light reading for my vacation. I picked up something called New Moon that was about Vampires. Ok, I dig vampires, so I bought it along with a more intellectually stimulating book. I had no idea at the time that it was in the Twilight series. It was god-awful yet incredibly addicting. I haven't read the rest.

Beahbeah on December 8th, 2009 02:10 am (UTC)
Oh, New Moon is the worst of the bunch. The others are much more fun to read :)

Actually: read twilight and two of its sequels. I have a teen daughter who was obsessed with them so reading them so we could talk about the messages, character choices, writing quality, etc seemed like a darned good idea.

How did that go?
Boring Nerdsignsoflife on December 7th, 2009 08:00 pm (UTC)
Creepy recent experience: Borders "Express", Short Hills Mall, "young adult" section.

95% vampire/werewolf/related derivative horror. There essentially *was* no "young adult" section, just a "young adult horror" section.
Beahbeah on December 8th, 2009 02:10 am (UTC)
What were you doing in the Short Hills Mall? I grew up 10 min from there!
Boring Nerd: beginningssignsoflife on December 8th, 2009 02:22 am (UTC)
So did B.

Oh dear. I wonder if I knew that. We'll have to play the name game next time we're in the same place.
catcatya on December 7th, 2009 09:01 pm (UTC)
fwiw, i read it because Emma wanted me to :)
Coscos on December 8th, 2009 01:34 am (UTC)
Huh, howcome you didn't ask people if they'd seen any of the movies?
