It looks like snow tomorrow! And I'm mentally gearing myself up for an extra-snowy winter, so I'm thinking about all the things I like about snow and winter. Things like

* cozy gatherings of friends and warm food
* curling up with the cat and a good book or movie while the snow falls
* sledding
* hot cocoa
* that soft, round silence that accompanies a heavy, fluffy snowfall
* snow ice cream
* brilliant, bright, crystalline morning sunlight
* making snow angels

What are some of your favorite things about winter?
I'm feeling: sleepysleepy

You summed it up pretty well! Some more about snow:

* so much more light in the darkness
- taking walks in the soft stillness of an evening snowfall
* shoveling snow when it's just fallen - really! - followed by hot drinks and exhilarated giggling
* running and sliding on packed, relatively flat snow on unshovelled sidewalks before it turns into ice
* watching my cats watch the snow
* watching the sky while snow is drifting down
- and as long as I'm already looking up, sticking out my tongue to catch the snowflakes

First and foremost, see icon.
  • Walking through a heavy snowfall at night.
  • The way the snow twinkles in the sunlight.
  • Watching my son frolic in the snow.
  • Frolicking in the snow.
  • Hot-tubbing when it's snowing.
  • The brisk, energized feeling I get from being out and active in the cold.

My favorite thing about winter is spring.

The glee that snow causes in all people too young to shovel :) Bonus points for making snow people!

Also, snow days. I love those!

An excuse to turn my oven on as often as I want. Which is a lot.

Drinking hot tea all day.

That if you manage to survive it, you get some spring action.

Many of the same things that've already been mentioned, and also:
* hot showers to warm up, preferably with company
* the shock and thrill of cold hands on warm necks or bellies
* icicles
* the reassuring sound of the plow letting you know that life goes on
* snowball fights!
* silly winter wear like brightly colored hats with tassles, soft, snuggly turtle necks and scarves, and nostalgia-inducing mittens (Freaky Freezies!)
* flushed pink cheeks
* waking up to a newly white world

I only like those things you mention when I am on vacation and not in the city.

Alternatively, one of the things I really love about winter is flying someplace warm. ;)

I love winter, largely for not being summer, so I'm afraid several of my "loves" are negatives, but I feel very positively about them:

• being able to wear sweaters and jeans and my beautiful, warm coats
• the clean smell of winter
• how lovely it is to hug people and how happy people are to be close
• the lack of bugs creeping and crawling into the house
• the feeling of getting into a car that's been sitting in the bright sunshine, out of the wind
• the long nights, since I'm generally more awake and productive in darkness
• the joy of making hearty foods--soups and stews and roasts and teas are just better in winter and it's lovely to have the oven going all day
• sleeping in a warm cocoon in a cold room
• the camaraderie and sense of shared challenge

The way it sounds to be outside when there's a new fresh deep coating of snow on everything.

I love the scent of a snowstorm, being able to venture places in my Jeep where normal cars can't go, snowshoeing, playing with my friend's huskies (who literally get giddy when it snows), doing indoor projects, walking in the snowy woods, and returning to my wondrous house in the woods that's made so toasty by the woodstove that it's truly a clothing-optional habitat.

This morning I shivered my way down to the basement* to run 20 minutes on the treadmill. When I was done, walking around outside in the 14F weather with a cold soda felt GREAT.

*our basement steps run through the garage, and our basement isn't explicitly heated.
