How many times have you been one of the (maybe) biological parents in a pregnancy scare?

Since you said "scare" my answer doesn't include the time(s) I've gotten pregnant on purpose.
tamidon on December 10th, 2009 03:03 am (UTC)
maybe I should change mine

this includes the 3 times I've been pregnant, and 2 of those were planned, so perhaps "scare" is the wrong term
ruthless compassion: martini handsaroraborealis on December 10th, 2009 03:11 am (UTC)
Yeah, I don't think the planned ones would count.
harimad on December 10th, 2009 03:08 am (UTC)
I voted "0" since scare implies an unwanted potential pregnancy.
Misanthropic extrovertdbang on December 10th, 2009 03:11 am (UTC)
Unplanned pregnancy (but met with delight and not fear) = 1
pregnancy test taken with genuine worry it might be positive = 1
Pregnancy tests taken because my period is ALWAYS late and I just wanted to double check, but didn't think it would be likely to be positive = a half dozen or so

I answered "2" on the poll

That sounds stressful!
Chipceo on December 10th, 2009 03:28 am (UTC)
Well, how do you define "pregnancy scare"? I had a condom break once, but there was never a positive pregnancy test. I'll count that one, as I'm quite sure that a positive test when you're trying for one doesn't count. :-)
ruthless compassion: martini handsaroraborealis on December 10th, 2009 03:33 am (UTC)
I think a broken condom leading to fear of pregnancy counts, even if it didn't turn out that she was pregnant.

Define "scare?"

For example, there's a big difference between

Period is a day or two late, but hey, it's possible we're doing the contraceptives wrong ...
and
Period is a day or two late, but hey, I didn't take the pill on time or at all for some of those days, and we lost the condom entirely one night, which was not a fun fishing expedition, letmetellyou ...
and
Period is two weeks late, but we used condoms religiously this month, dammit, but my home pregnancy test says positive ... !
Stephghislaine on December 10th, 2009 03:47 am (UTC)
I defined it as "worried enough to consider taking, or actually taking, a home pregnancy test."

I am not pregnant, nor have I recently been worried that I might be :)

Does emergency contraception count?

Let's say yes :)
phoenixamber_phoenix on December 10th, 2009 05:06 am (UTC)
I have no idea what counts. I answered one (who happens to be my second wonderous child, conceived a bit earlier than intended). I've been a little bit scared I was pregnant numerous times, more than 9. Except for the one time I was actually pregnant, I was on the pill or had an IUD for every tiny scare and wasn't terribly scared, just impatient for evidence that I wasn't pregnant.
Bad Rabbitzzbottom on December 10th, 2009 12:26 pm (UTC)
I have used emergency contraception in three cases. Once was a condom break and twice my x-wife decided she was nervous enough about having missed a day with her pill that she wanted to double-cover.

semi-relatedly...

while I understand what "emergency contraception" actually is, my insinctive visualization is of rubber bands and some saran wrap. Which doesn't make my giggling any more appropriate, I understand.

I answered one because that is the number of times I have taken the morning after pill. I feel like "worried enough to take it" counts, even though taking it resulted in not worrying about whether I was pregnant.

I didn't count an instance where a condom broke when I was on the pill and my partner was very worried I might be pregnant, despite the fact that it was pretty upsetting, because I wasn't actually worried I was pregnant.
catcatya on December 10th, 2009 03:40 pm (UTC)
I put the number of semi-serious ones on there (I am pretty sure I was pregnant and miscarried both times.) - there have been any number of "uh oh" moments in my life, either condom breaking or late or whatever.
