Every time I fly out on a ridiculously early flight, I think to myself, "I'm never going to do this to myself again. it sucks!"

But then when it comes time again to decide between spending the extra $150 or get up in the middle of the night to get to the airport in time, I think to myself, "Oh, it can't be that bad, can it?"

Probably, if I were buying the ticket the day before, it would be worth it, but as it is, the decision and the misery are too far apart to change the factors of my decision effectively.

So, I'm flying out tomorrow at 6am. I will not have coffee first, because this is the one setting in which I have a shot at actually sleeping for part of the flight. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

For several years now I've bought more expensive plane tickets so as to avoid early flights as well as minimizing transfers (ideally to zero). I'm willing to pay the $200 in order to have more of my life available to use as I see fit.

Having travelled many a time on Christmas eve and the likes, I find the earliest one gets out more often. It's also the one I know has the chance of being less full than the others as people often miss it. And I am relatively sure that once I arrive, I can go back to sleep. :)

No promises on the last one.

Plus...despite me being "NOT" a morning person (aka grumpy as hell) I feel a certain amount of excitement in "going" somewhere. Even if it's only to see family.

I'm a day behind you. If you're still in the airport on Wednesday morning, I'll take you with me.

If I'm still there Wednesday morning, you're not going to want to be anywhere near me :)

But muffyjo's going to PR, so if you're still in the airport on Wednesday morning, you might just want to change your travel plans and go with her! :)
I'm still trying to figure out how P. and I can get away with that. ;-)

I go through that same process on taking the red eye. I swear it off every time, but then can't bring myself to "waste a whole day in travel."

Oh yes I hear you. But getting out early in the morning is good because you're far less likely be delayed - a worthwhile tradeoff in my book.

I will pay more to get a direct flight (and I mean a real direct flight not a so-called "change of equipment" that is a transfer in disguise!). Again, far lower chance of being delayed, baggage going missing, missing a flight, etc. It helps that I'm usually going from major hub to major hub.

I still take red-eyes and still, each time, wonder what I was thinking.

gAh! That's EARLY out of the house.

Safe flight, I hope you sleep through it all.
