When I'm writing emails for work, the most frequent piece of editing I have to do is deleting exclamation points. Typically, I write an email, then scan it to make sure it makes sense and covers everything I meant to cover. While doing so, I notice that there's an exclamation point at the end of nearly ever sentence, and I change all or most of them to periods and commas. Then, often, I put an exclamation point at the end of the one sentence that didn't previously have one.

As editing goes, this is pretty easy, but it strikes me as both odd and funny that a) my instinct is to put so many exclamation points in my business correspondence, and that b) my solution is not to stop writing emails that way, but to continue going back and editing them out on the second read.
