Do you have a favorite word? What is it, and why?
Renata Piperlyonesse on October 26th, 2010 02:43 pm (UTC)
"idiolect". i made it up once when i needed it, and then found out it was already in use exactly how i meant :)
David Policardpolicar on October 26th, 2010 02:44 pm (UTC)
Not really, no.

Right now, I like "triumph." It has a very powerful sound to it.

Floccinaucinihilipilification. It's so nice and long, and it's really fun to say, although I rarely find an excuse to use it in casual conversation.

I live at words' end. Whichever ones wander in, those are my favorites.

I cannot see that word without thinking of Transylvania (text adventure game), as that was where I first encountered it.

Oh, that figures. Mine is "ecstatic", for similar reasons (plus the meaning).

Oh, yes... I'm also fond of the *meaning* of eclectic as well as the sound. :)

Heheh. I am also a huge fan of onomatopoeia. I don't like looking at it, but I love saying it, and hearing it, even though it sounds nothing like what it is. :)
wild, predictable abandoncontessagrrl on October 26th, 2010 04:14 pm (UTC)
Facetious, for how it feels in my mouth to say it, and also because I often love people who are. :)

I think maybe my favorite word is "yes".

But if you're having trouble coming up with a favorite word...

catcatya on October 26th, 2010 04:47 pm (UTC)
I don't know if I actually do, but "persnickety" came to mind :)

You've reminded me of the existence of the word nulliparous. I don't think it's one of my favorite words but I am tickled by the fact of its existence.

After my dad taught me antidisestablishmentarianism, I decided I liked pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. They are long and complicated. There are probably others that I like for their sound and meaning, but they don't sit near the top of my brain.

There are words I love, though not one favorite.

However, I'll pick one of my favorites for you: orthogonal.
